Vocational Education

An effective way to provide long term support to young people in Lindi, is to sponsor vocational education for one or two years.   Following a period in vocational colleges, learning practical skills to earn a living, individuals can become self-sufficient and in some cases, even able to support other family members.

Read Shafi’s story below.  With further donations we aim to help more young people like Shafi to live a life with a bright future ahead of them.

Shafi

Shafi is now a young man with a future. He lived opposite Steve & Sue Scorer when they were staying in Lindi and often helped cut grass or wash the car for some extra money for his family.

When Steve & Sue returned in January 2020, he was very disheartened as he had gained a low grade in his secondary leaving exam (along with 80% of the other students) and felt he really had no hope.

With the help of local friends and the promise of sponsorship funds from Friends of Lindi he was quickly enrolled into a local vocational college to study Air Conditioning and Refrigeration.

After two years and a successful work experience placement in the prestigious Serena Hotel in Dar es Salaam, Shafi is now self-employed in Lindi and has regular work.

Friends of Lindi have continued to sponsor courses for him and he now has commercial as well as domestic qualifications He is currently following an advanced electrician course part time.

Shafi is one of our big success stories to date. Your donations could create real opportunities for people like Shafi.
