For some years now we have set up several street libraries to allow children access to books in Kiswahili, following an initial grant from the Tanzanian Development Trust. Whilst children are taught at school to read, there are no books available to read and enjoy!
We now have street libraries in Lindi, the rural villages of Chikonji, Ruvu & Tulieni, and Mchinga, 30 miles from Lindi town. In addition to story books the “librarians” have requested sets of primary school text books to help with homework tasks. These should now be in place.

As well as books we also provide board games such as draughts, snakes and ladders, Ludo and will soon introduce chess. These games sound simple but provide a welcome diversion from day-to-day life for these young children.
With further support we can provide more books for our existing street libraries and set up new street libraries in different locations. Your donation can bring the joy of books to the lives of young people in Lindi and surrounding areas.
