Friends of Lindi is a small UK based charity (Registered Charity No.1176494), set up in 2008 to finance educational sponsorship of children in Lindi, South East Tanzania.
Our focus is now to fund other projects to help alleviate poverty and to enhance the lives of children and people in need in Lindi.
We are driven and supported by volunteers and 98% of all donations go directly to our projects in Lindi. We pride ourselves on having personal contact with all those we assist.

Our campaign to drill a borehole to bring water to Angaza school
We have been approached by Angaza school in Lindi to provide a water borehole for the students and local villagers.
Steve, Friends of Lindi Chairman, worked at the school when he was volunteering in Lindi. The school is approximately 3km up a steep hill from the centre of town where most of the students live. The school was built on this rocky hill in anticipation of population growth on the outskirts of Lindi town.
There is no water source at the school or in the neighbouring village which means the students have to carry water from the town up to school each day!
The proposal is to drill a borehole up to 150 metres deep and install a pump and water point. The survey has already been completed and water is available deep underground. If we raise enough money, pipes can be installed to pump water to the toilet block on the school site.
The impact will be huge for the 950 students and 2500 villagers. The water board will test the water and the school will organise maintenance from a small charge made to villagers. Clean water has a massive impact on health for all users young and old.
Friends of Lindi have raised nearly £2000 and the target is £5000 for complete installation. A contract has been drawn up between Friends of Lindi, the drilling company, the school and Luwasa (the water board).

Children’s Street Libraries
For some years now we have set up several street libraries to allow children access to books in Kiswahili, following an initial grant from the Tanzanian Development Trust.
Helping individuals in need
We are a small charity and can only a help small number of people. 98% of all donations received go directly to the people we try and help.
Sponsor a wheelchair
The number of disabled children in Lindi is proportionately much higher than we see in the UK.
Vocational Education
An effective way to provide long term support to young people in Lindi, is to sponsor vocational education for one or two years.
Working with other organisations in Tanzania
We are committed to working with other organisations with similar goals to ourselves.
