We are a small charity and can only a help small number of people. \u00a098% of all donations received go directly to the people we try and help. Our ethos very much follows the parable below<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Starfish<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A man was standing on an Indian Ocean beach throwing stranded starfish back into the water. A passer-by commented that it was a futile activity as there were so many that it would not make a difference. The man held one up and tossed it into the water saying: \u201cIt made a difference to that one!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Manzi<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This young man was the best performer from a Government secondary school in the district in 2017, despite having no proper maths or science teachers for four years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He lived with his grandma in a mud house with no electricity but persevered and went on to Advanced levels and is now at university studying Vet Science. He was helped into secondary school and we gifted a laptop to help his advanced studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Manzi approached us to help his grandma and auntie earn some money to live a  better life. A chicken house was built to raise chickens for meat and eggs. The aim was to make a profit and pass on the loan of \u00a3225 to another villager to start their own chicken project. Manzi has been able to use his vet skills to improve methods of rearing and hygiene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where is Manzi now?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Manzi\u2019s journey has taken him to the University of Morogo to study Vet Science and we supported him to enable him to have his own room for studying more effectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then came the opportunity for him to take up an internship in Denmark for 18 months. Some more help to pay for a visa and a passport launched him into a life changing experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He learned how farming operated and about life in Europe and what was needed to succeed. He discovered that money does not grow on trees and his employer, a woman, was an excellent role model. Manzi learned that hard work and planning are the key to success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We visited him in Ribe with a suitcase full of warm clothes ready for the winter!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Manzi returned in 2024 to finish his studies and will graduate this year \u2013 2026. But not before spending time in the Serengeti practising his skills with wild animals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the money Manzi managed to save in Denmark, he has built a house for his grandma back in Chikonji, his home village. He has also bought some land and intends to farm it using modern techniques.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Manzi should be very proud of his achievements, and we are following his progress through life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shafi<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Shafi had no income and was living in one room with a friend. He came to us with a business idea for a computer games club. With a donated PS2 and games as a starter all he needed was a monitor, which we provided. He charges local boys 200 shillings (7p!) for 20 minutes on the games. And that\u2019s one way to survive in Sub-Saharan Africa!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This was back in 2019 and we have since helped Shafi to gain more qualifications as an air conditioning technician securing both domestic and commercial electrical certificates. He is now earning a living and is a confident young man in a challenging world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mariamu and her mama and little sister <\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Mariamu and her sister have it hard. Mama works selling sweet corn and goes away for weeks at a time to harvest crops. Mariamu the older daughter comes home from school and then goes out in the dark to grill sweet corn to sell at the bus stand to passing travellers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One year we took donated bras and clothes for them to sell \u2013 there are no quality bras available to ordinary women. And after a tornado hit Lindi in 2021 and took the roof off their little shack we responded by organising a friend to repair the roof with metal sheets. The rain was pouring in!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bicycle Repair Shop<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Mr Manyanya was a bicycle repair man who seemingly didn’t need any tools, as he was so strong! His toolkit comprised of a hammer and one spanner. In 2019 we donated a Halfords bike tool kit \u2013 it became his prize possession and cut down repair time as well as damaged fingers!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fadhila<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Fadhila was a happy girl from our neighbourhood when we met her at age 8. She gradually lost her hearing, most likely as a result of overdosing on malaria medication. At the local government secondary school she was ignored by teachers and teased by other members of the community. Our local rep, Ramson, found her a place in a school for the deaf in Njombe on the other side of Tanzania. She learned signing and f<\/s>inished secondary school at the end of 2022 a happier and more confident girl, having been partly sponsored by students from Sackville school in East Grinstead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now she is still trying to follow her dream of becoming a pre-school teacher. She has been getting some experience in a local primary school but still has to fight the stigma against disability in Tanzanian society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
